The Hythe Pier Museum

There have been several heritage displays and information boards over the years, but never a dedicated museum — until 2025.

Allan Fairhead, a local councillor, was the driving force behind many community projects, including the idea for a “Shed Shop & Museum.” Sadly, Allan passed away in January 2025, just five months before the Museum opened. Members of the Hythe Shed (at the pier), which Allan himself had established, continued his work by restoring the building and have volunteered to run the shop since it opened.

The Museum is located in the original ferry goods yard, in the building that once housed the first generator used to power the pier and its electric train.
