Can You Help Us

A different kind of appeal

We’re not asking for your money — we’re asking for your stories.

The Hythe Pier Museum exists thanks to the generosity of local businesses, the hard work of volunteers from the Hythe Shed (at the Pier), and the support of people who simply care about keeping Hythe’s history alive.

What we are looking for

Memories, photos and objects

There must be hundreds of photographs tucked away in albums and drawers — the pier, the train, the ferry, the people who worked on them, and the people who travelled on them.

  • Old photos — any era, any condition.

  • Stories — tales your parents or grandparents told you.

  • Objects — tickets, signs, souvenirs, paperwork.

  • Names — we're looking for names and photos of any staff employed over the last 150 years.

Every piece helps fill in another part of the story.

Volunteers

If you enjoy local history or simply like meeting people, we’d love help running the shop and museum. Even a small amount of time makes a difference.

If you really want to donate

There are several connected groups who would put your generosity to excellent use:

  • Hythe Shed (at the Pier) — a community workshop supporting a wide range of local projects, not just pier‑related ones.

  • Hythe Pier Heritage Association — the charity restoring the tractors, carriages, platform and tracks.

  • The Pier’s owner — a private individual who often runs fundraisers to help maintain the structure itself.

  • Red Funnel — owners of the ferry and pontoon, who also control the route’s future.
